Coconut oil soap recipe. When it s made into soap though it creates a very hard bar that is very cleansing and bubbly. Kindly help me with optimum superfat percentage. In the end these days i normally only make a coconut oil based liquid soap as it s cheaper to make and prefectly multi use. Changing an oil may change the lye amount.
Don t superfat more than about 8 to 10 or the soap will be soft have poor lather and will be prone to the dreaded orange spots or spoilage. In bar soaps though the difference is huge. I don t need any of that. The coconut oil would give more lather and cleansing abilities.
Be sure to look at the superfat percent and change it to 20 or so for any soap this high in coconut oil then click on view print recipe. Personally i wouldn t use a recipe that was so high in coconut oil for fear of the soap stripping my skin and leaving it feeling dry and tight. Which is why i absolutely love this soap recipe. I love the smell of coconut i use it often and i have a great coconut oil soap recipe to share with you using the cold process method.

Coconut oil is often the soap maker s first choice oil as it creates a lovely hard white soap. Something made with coconut or olive oil perhaps. For this specific recipe i used an equal mix of olive oil and coconut oil but just pure coconut oil can be used like this great recipe from mommypotamus or just olive oil can be used. Nowadays even basic bar soap is full of strange caustic chemicals and perfumes.
You can make soap with any oil or combination of oils. All amounts are per weight. If just olive oil is used you ll have a pure castile soap named after that region in spain which is very moisturizing but can take longer to cure. Probably 20 is going to be best if you don t want a bar that is drying.
Coconut oil is amazing stuff especially if you use it directly on your skin. If you substitute olive oil you will need to recalculate the recipe. You will need to use a digital scale for these measurements. Because this soap is highly superfatted it can create a very dense lather when rubbed directly on skin.
Lathering skin bar 20 superfat makes approximately 44 oz.
